WebMar 24, 2024 · Currently, I've settled on the Burris XTR3 5.5-30x56 with SCR Mil Reticle. I have three of these, they all have excellent glass. Compared side x side with three different 3.3-18x50 SCR Mil versions, the 5.5-30's have a "nicer picture" with more clear glass at all mag levels. At least that is the way it was with my 6 Burris XTR3 scopes. WebMar 19, 2024 · I think the reason the XTR III has not caught on is because of the lack of illumination, Burris dropped the ball on that one. The SCR2 reticle in the 3.3-18 is also very thin and not ideal IMO. Once Burris offers illumination and thickens up the SCR2 in the 3.3-18 we will start hearing a lot more chatter about these scopes. WebMar 23, 2024 · I purchased a new Burris XTR3 3.3-18x50 SCR (US not illuminated) again on sale from Cameraland for PRS22 competition as upgrade from Vortex Venom (that failed to track) after success with the XTR3 on my PRS rifle. I see no significant difference in glass quality from the XTR3 5.5-30 vs XTR3 3.3-18 but I am not a glass expert by any means.

Some vendors are still selling it for $1600 or so. However at the $1000 price point it’s REALLY hard to beat. The glass is excellent. I briefly owned a 3.3-18 as a hold me over scope. It performed well once I was past 10x. Gen 3 razor is "better", but not in any way that actually matters. Above 20x.....the Gen 3 Razor is phenominal at cutting mirage, much as you noticed.
