Inclusive igneous rock
WebIgneous rocks (from the Latin word for fire) form when hot, molten rock crystallizes and solidifies. The melt originates deep within the Earth near active plate boundaries or hot spots, then rises toward the surface. Igneous rocks are divided into two groups, intrusive or extrusive, depending upon where the molten rock solidifies. WebJun 8, 2024 · Figure 5.1. 1: Granite is a classic coarse-grained (phaneritic) intrusive igneous rock. The different colors are unique minerals. The black colors are likely two or three different minerals. If magma cools slowly, deep within the crust, the resulting rock is called intrusive or plutonic.
