WebGamba grass is a highly invasive perennial grass, with individual tussocks growing up to 4m high and almost 1 m wide. It grows vigorously and displaces native plant species. Gamba grass is emerging as a significant threat for a range of land users in Northern Australia including conservation, Aboriginal, pastoral mining and defence land users. WebGamba grass has rapidly expanded in the park since 2014, with infestations now covering ~30,000 ha. This is the largest gamba grass infestation in a national park in Australia. Without intensive weed control, we predict gamba grass will cover more than 42,000 ha within a decade.
